What Is the Shelly LOQED Touch Smart Lock?
LOQED has been building keyless smart locks for a few years, and this version marks an interesting shift: it’s now integrated into the Shelly ecosystem. For existing Shelly users, that means a premium smart lock that plays nicely with their other devices. For everyone else, it means a lock backed by a brand with a strong reputation for local-first, reliable smart home hardware.
The package is comprehensive. Inside the box you get the 8mm-thin outside touch panel, the motorised inside unit, the LOQED BLU Bridge (a small Wi-Fi gateway), batteries rated up to a year, and a certified Euro profile cylinder. You won’t need to source additional hardware.
Touch to Open: The Feature That Changes Everything
The standout feature is Touch to Open. When your phone is in Bluetooth range, you simply touch the slim glass panel on the outside of your door and it unlocks — no app, no button, nothing else. In practice, this feels effortless in a way most smart locks don’t quite achieve. The Bluetooth geofencing means that by the time you reach the door, the lock is already primed and waiting. In weeks of testing, I encountered only two or three occasions where detection was a touch slow.
Importantly, this lock is designed to be genuinely keyless. There is no physical key backup. The fallbacks are a PIN code on the touch panel, or — if the battery runs flat — touching a 9-volt battery to two external contacts to power one last unlock. It’s a clever design choice, and the emergency bypass works exactly as described.
Security Credentials
Security is taken seriously here. The LOQED holds SKG 3-star certification, the highest rating under European standards EN1303 and EN 15684. The inside unit uses stainless steel with hardened drill protection — this is not a hollow plastic shell. Digital key sharing lets you create time-limited access for guests or cleaners, with automatic expiry. No more cutting spare keys.
Installation and App Experience
Physical installation takes roughly an hour. You remove your existing cylinder, fit the LOQED cylinder, attach the touch panel to the outside and the motor unit to the inside. The hardware is well-engineered to fit most existing doors without modification — I was genuinely impressed by how well it’s made.
The app situation is more nuanced. You need two apps: the LOQED app for all lock management (keys, PINs, schedules, access log), and the Shelly Smart Control app for ecosystem integration. It works, but it isn’t as seamless as a single unified interface. If you’re not using other Shelly products, you’ll live entirely in the LOQED app and the dual-app situation becomes irrelevant.
One minor gripe: PIN entry on the flat glass panel takes some getting used to. There are no tactile buttons — you press invisible positions on glass. Fine once you know where to tap, less intuitive the first few times.
Home Assistant Integration
Good news for Home Assistant users: the LOQED has been part of HA core since version 2023.7. Setup requires generating a personal access token in the LOQED web portal; Home Assistant then auto-discovers the BLU Bridge on your local network.
Crucially, the integration uses a local push API via webhook — state changes are sent to Home Assistant instantly, with no polling. Lock, unlock, or open the door and HA knows immediately. You get a lock entity with three states (locked, unlocked, open) plus a battery percentage sensor. For automations, this is exactly the behaviour you want.
Verdict
At around €250 including VAT, the Shelly LOQED Touch Smart Lock is firmly premium — and it earns that price. The auto-unlock experience is smooth, the SKG 3-star security is serious, and the Home Assistant integration is local, push-based, and reliable.
Who it’s for: anyone with a Euro profile door lock who wants to genuinely stop thinking about keys. Shelly ecosystem users get bonus value from device integration.
Who should check first: UK oval, Scandinavian, and Swiss profile locks are not compatible. UK buyers also need a separate plug adapter for the BLU Bridge. And if losing the physical key option is a dealbreaker, this lock isn’t designed with that in mind.
Overall, build quality, security rating, auto-unlock performance, and smart home compatibility all impress. I’m genuinely impressed with this one.
