What Are These Two Products, and Why Test Them Together?
SwitchBot sent both units for this review, and at first glance they don’t seem like a natural pair: a €99.99 fan and a €299.99 air purifier disguised as furniture. But both sit in the same smart home category, both claim Home Assistant compatibility, and both have a feature or two that the spec sheet doesn’t mention. Testing them side by side made it possible to answer a more useful question than either device alone could: if you’re building out a smart home setup, where does your money actually do the most good?
The Standing Circulator Fan: Small Footprint, Big Flexibility
Assembly took about two minutes with no tools — head, three pole sections, and a base that click together. The matte white finish and the subtle night light around the head give it a more premium feel than the price suggests, and the included remote and USB-C charging cable are welcome extras in the box.
The standout feature is modular height: a 47cm desk fan, a 74cm mid-height fan, or a full 1-metre standing fan, swappable in seconds. Combined with a built-in 2400mAh battery that delivers up to 28 hours of cordless use on the lowest “Baby Mode” setting, this is a fan that moves between a bedside table, a desk, and a garden without needing a different product for each spot.
On the spec side, the DC brushless motor with SilenTech dampening runs at a genuinely quiet 22 decibels on its lowest setting, with airflow rated at 9.15 cubic metres per minute across nine speeds and four modes. The app adds a 1-to-100% speed slider — unusually granular for a fan at this price — plus oscillation, tilt, scheduling, and independent night light control.
Fan Home Assistant Compatibility: The Honest Picture
Here’s where things get more complicated. The fan has no built-in Wi-Fi — it’s Bluetooth only — so getting it into Home Assistant means choosing between the SwitchBot Cloud integration (on/off and mode selection, but cloud-dependent) or Matter via a separate SwitchBot Matter-enabled hub (on/off only, exposed as a basic switch entity). Local Bluetooth integration, which other SwitchBot devices already have, isn’t available for this fan yet. SwitchBot’s track record suggests that could change, but it’s not guaranteed, so anyone who relies heavily on local HA control should factor that in before buying.
The Air Purifier Table: Furniture That Happens to Clean Air
The Air Purifier Table takes about five minutes to assemble, with a slightly fiddly screw-in tabletop, but the finished product genuinely passes as a side table, available in white, natural wood, and walnut. Underneath that furniture exterior is a 15W Qi wireless charger, an LED ring that doubles as an air-quality indicator or a ten-colour ambient light, and a fragrance diffuser slot for essential oils.
The purifier itself uses a three-stage filter — pre-filter, true HEPA rated for 99.97% of particles down to PM2.5, and activated carbon for odours — backed by a PM2.5 sensor that drives an effective Auto mode. The Clean Air Delivery Rate of 400 cubic metres per hour is well suited to rooms up to roughly 30-35 square metres; larger open-plan spaces will be more of a stretch. Sleep mode runs at a near-silent 20 decibels, though higher speeds get noticeably loud. Replacement filters run around €45 every six to twelve months, which is worth budgeting for as a running cost.
Air Purifier Home Assistant Compatibility: Where It Falls Short
The Air Purifier Table is Matter-certified over Wi-Fi and also supports local Bluetooth, so no hub is required. But what actually reaches Home Assistant through either method is limited to on/off control, mode selection, and the air quality sensor — no speed control and no light control. The Cloud integration exposes the same entities with the added downside of depending on SwitchBot’s servers. Right now, neither route gives Home Assistant users the full feature set this device is capable of.
Pricing
The Standing Circulator Fan is €99.99, plus roughly €49 for a SwitchBot Hub Mini if Matter integration matters to you, bringing the realistic total to around €150. The Air Purifier Table is €299.99 on its own.
Verdict
After testing both, my honest take is that they serve two different purposes rather than being a true package deal. The Standing Circulator Fan is the stronger smart home device: the modular height, the battery, and the app’s granular speed control all add real, daily flexibility, even with its current Home Assistant limitations. The Air Purifier Table is more of a lifestyle device — wireless charging, ambient lighting, and genuinely effective odour removal make it a thoughtful piece of furniture, but its Home Assistant integration is currently basic and its Clean Air Delivery Rate suits smaller rooms best.
If you’re deep into Home Assistant and want full local control, weigh that limitation carefully for both devices. If you just want moving air and clean air working together in the same room, they do complement each other well, especially in a home with pets or allergies. Buy the fan for the smart home upgrade, and buy the purifier for the lifestyle upgrade — both can be worth it if they match what you actually need.
