An €8,000 robot mower that never touches your hands once it’s set up sounds like something out of a sci-fi garden, and in a lot of ways, it is. The Yarbo Lawn Mower Pro is built for large, complicated properties that would otherwise need a ride-on mower or a landscaping crew. I spent real time testing it, digging into the app, and, because this is a Home Assistant channel, finding out exactly what happens when you try to connect it to HA. Yarbo doesn’t make that easy. But the community found a way anyway, and it changes what this robot can do.

What Is the Yarbo Lawn Mower Pro?

The Lawn Mower Pro is the upgraded cutting module for Yarbo’s modular yard robot system. It arrives less like an unboxing and more like a delivery: the Core unit, the Lawn Mower Pro module itself, a docking station, a Data Center for positioning, a battery, a charger, and an installation kit with both blade types included.

The first impression is industrial rather than gadget-like. The Core unit is heavy and rides on caterpillar tracks, heavy enough that I could barely lift it out of the box alone. The Lawn Mower Pro module clicks into place on top of it, and the whole assembly feels built for scale, not for a typical suburban lawn.

Key Features: Power, Navigation and Coverage

Yarbo’s headline spec is a pair of 300-watt motors producing up to 2,500 watts of peak power when working together, enough to chew through grass that would stall a standard robot mower. Navigation relies on RTK-GPS combined with dual vision cameras rather than a buried boundary wire, which means no trenching your yard, though it’s worth noting there’s no LIDAR on board.

Yarbo rates the Pro for up to six acres and slopes as steep as 35 degrees, well beyond most consumer robot mowers and even steeper than many ride-on mowers are rated for. Cutting height ranges from 2 to 10.2 centimeters, which covers everything from a tight, golf-course-style cut to a taller, low-maintenance lawn. That six-acre figure applies to the whole modular system rather than any single yard, and dense obstacles eat into it quickly.

Setup, Mapping and the Yarbo App

Setup is not a fifteen-minute job. Between assembling the Core unit, placing the Data Center for RTK positioning, installing the dock, and mapping zones, boundaries, obstacles, and features like ponds or flower beds, it took me over an hour. Yarbo offers a volunteer installer network and video support, and the videos are easy enough to follow.

The app is where a device like this either makes or breaks itself, and here it mostly makes it. Available on iOS and Android, it handles custom schedules, zone mapping, and live alerts when the robot gets stuck. It’s also the first robot mower I’ve tested with six onboard cameras and a live view, plus a speaker you can use to talk to anyone wandering into your yard. It leans heavily on the cloud, though, which is worth keeping in mind if local control matters to you.

Performance: Cut Quality and Obstacle Handling

On a flat, open lawn, cut quality with the straight blades was excellent: clean, even, with minimal clumping. My garden is small and flat, so I couldn’t push it on steep terrain, but the limitation that did show up was in tight, obstacle-heavy zones. Three separate times the mower hesitated and rerouted around a garden feature, leaving a noticeable uncut strip, and even after adjusting the map and settings, some areas still weren’t fully cut. The camera-only navigation, combined with the mower’s size, means it makes wide turns around obstacles compared to some competitors. The weight and caterpillar tracks are also worth factoring in if your grass is delicate; mowing the same small patch four times in one day during testing left visible damage, though that’s an extreme case well beyond normal use.

Home Assistant Compatibility: The Unofficial Fix

Here’s the part that makes this review worth watching if you’re in this community. Yarbo does not officially support Home Assistant, and it’s been requested on the company’s own forum for over a year without commitment. A developer stepped in anyway and built a community integration over local MQTT. The base station auto-discovers on your network and exposes real entities: battery, mowing status, a GPS tracker on your HA map, light controls, and automation blueprints for things like pausing on rain or alerting you when a job finishes.

It runs entirely on your local network with no cloud round-trip required, which beats plenty of “officially supported” devices. It’s not perfect, though. It currently needs a manual dependency install, and not every function works reliably. In my testing, the mower status entity consistently reported “Docked” even while the mower was actively cutting the lawn, so this integration still needs more work before it fully represents what the Yarbo Pro is doing.

Price: Is €8,000 Worth It?

At around €8,000, the Yarbo Lawn Mower Pro sits firmly in premium territory, above what most people pay for a ride-on mower. It’s not an impulse buy; it’s a tool aimed at people with large, complex properties who’d otherwise be paying for landscaping labor. If your yard is under an acre and reasonably flat, a cheaper robot mower will do the job. Yarbo is also launching an M Series later this year that looks better suited to smaller gardens, and I plan to review it once it’s available.

Verdict

The Yarbo Lawn Mower Pro isn’t a mower for a small, delicate lawn like mine, and it doesn’t pretend to be. For a large, sloped, complicated property, the kind that makes you dread mowing season, the combination of raw power, slope handling, and a workable path into Home Assistant makes a real case for itself. It’s expensive, setup takes genuine effort, and tight zones will still need occasional manual touch-ups. But for the right property, it replaces actual paid labor, and for some owners, that math works out fast.
